Memorial Day weekend 2011 was planned to be in Savannah, GA camping but, due to everyone and their mother trying to go the same weekend, we opted to stay in NC and create our own adventure. We've been on the go so much lately because of John's crazy schedule and some things occupying my time (for a later post), so it was a nice change of pace. We really didn't have a normal to-do list, but just spent good quality family time together. Friday we beat the weekend crowds and went to the NC zoo. I have mixed feelings about the zoo, which I think stems from my time living in Mexico. The animals were so depressed and obviously not well-cared for. So, this being the first time we've gone to this zoo, I was a little leary. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I heard good things about our zoo, and all of it was true. It was such a great natural habitat with lots of trees and space for the animals to roam and, for the most part, were very healthy and active.
Saturday we played outside then had went to our neighbors' for a barbeque with lots of our good friends. Great food, awesome friends, and a fire when the sun set...my kind of day.
Sunday was perfect, church in the morning, relaxing at home, and a Sunday afternoon nap. We ate out for dinner and went to the park for Si to run off some energy as the days are getting so hot! Monday was spent at one of the outdoor pools on post. Josiah had so much fun splashing and kicking that he almost fell asleep on my chest in the water.
We are so grateful to our servicemen, women, and veterans who sacrifice(d) for our freedom this weekend and every day of the year. God bless America!
